As always, I would like to strongly encourage people to ask questions. Your anonymity is assured, unless you specifically want to be named. Keep the questions coming - if you don't know the answer to something, the chances are someone else doesn't either.

translatortips.com news and NEW site sections

So what's been happening at translatortips.com recently?

tranfree now reaches 3500 people around the world.

Just this week tranfree reached the landmark figure of 3500 subscribers. As far as I know, this makes tranfree the largest translation related ezine in the world (although if anyone knows of a larger one I'd be glad to hear about it). I'd like to thank all those of you who have helped me grow the subscriber base so quickly in such a short time. Of course, there has to be more than 3500 people around the world who could benefit from this valuable FREE information. A recent statistic I read in LANTRA stated that there were as many as 60,000 translators in the USA alone! If you know anyone who could benefit from tranfree please send them a copy.

NEW translatortips.com Affiliate Program

I recently read that one of the best and most ethical ways to build up targeted traffic to a website is to run an affiliate program. So I thought I'd take a chance and give it a go.

I've spent quite a lot of money on the proper software to do it the right way. If you have a web site and you are interested in signing up for the translatortips.com affiliate program you can get a 30% commission on any sales made to people who come through to translatortips.com from your site.

I can't just accept any old porno site though (not that I'm suggesting that you have one), I do have some qualification criteria regarding relevance and traffic numbers which must be met by new affiliates.

If you are interested in the possibility of joining the translatortips.com affiliate program and getting a 30% commission from your referrals and an additional 10% commission from any second-tier referrals, please visit http://www.translatortips.net/af/affiliate.html to see if your site qualifies and find out more.

NEW Security technology page

Many people are afraid to make online card transactions on the web. If pages are set up properly using the proper technology, there really is no need to worry about card details being intercepted. A new page has been written explaining all about the security technology used at the translatortips.com and translation-agencies.com web sites. If you are interested in finding out more about how WE do it the right way please go to http://www.translatortips.net/security.html

Please note that this does not mean that ALL web sites are trustworthy, but it should help blow away some of the common myths about web security. Please check it out if you are concerned about making online transactions.

NEW Statement of privacy policy

Another thing which a lot of people are concerned about is their personal privacy. How are the people at this site going to use my personal data? If I give them my email address how do I know they won't sell it to spammers? What are cookies? Why are they necessary and what are they used for?

Another new page at translatortips.com attempts to answer all these questions and more. If you have any doubts and want to read the translatortips.com privacy policy just go to http://www.translatortips.net/privacy.html

Payment Practices

Karin Adamczyk's famous Payment Practices mailing list reached 600 subscribers this week and is going from strength to strength. Many people are beginning to say that this marvellous FREE service is starting to make a difference in cleaning up the translation industry. As I've said many times before, the more members there are of Payment Practices, the better information we all have when making our decisions about whether or not to work for various potential translation clients. translatortips.com is proud to sponsor Payment Practices. To find out more about this excellent FREE resource for translators please go to http://www.translation-agencies.com If you want to join you can also sign up there!

Radek Pletka's weekly translation job list

Radek's weekly translation job list is distributed by email every week as a zipped text file. The 07 November 1999 edition contains over 18,000 words spread over 62 pages (when I opened the file in Word). This is a very comprehensive collection of job offers all around the world. If you want to save yourself time and money you really should consider subscribing to Radek's list. It only costs $30 per year and in my opinion is worth much more than this.
