Dear Alex,

first of all I would like to thank you for
providing this space as well as your
interesting newsletter.

My question today relates to the translator's
finances. At this point I am more or less
busy as a translator and work with clients
in the US, where I live, as well as in Europe.

My European clients do not like to spend the
extra fees involved with international wire
transfers. Therefore I opened an account in
Germany and wait until I accumulate a larger
sum before I ask my father to wire money to
my account in the US. I have
contacted Chase Manhattan Bank to find out
if there is not a way to open accounts
with them in Europe and, as soon as payment
is deposited on the account I would have
access to it from here. Well, that was unfortunately not
an option.

How do you and other translators deal with
this issue? I basically lose $30.00 with
every wire transfer. Isn't there a way to
avoid filling the banks' pockets?

Any input will be greatly appreciated.

Kind regards,

Antje
