: : Question:
: : I understand that the question of how much to charge has to do with all the factors previously pointed out (as well as the length of the document I believe), BUT could someone volunteer a per word rate for the following situation :
: : In New York, for a non-technical no-rush translation of a 10 page document from French into English. Through an agency and direct client.
What to charge?
I've alway charged my translations on a per word basis (word count in the target languages), the final cost fluctuates depending on language and topic difficulties. When asked to translate and audio or video tape the cost has to take into account the quality of the tape, on the average you can determine that for every minute of decent audio it will 30 to 40 monutes to perform transcript and translation. In the legal field the average is around $40.00 per hour.
: I would say a fair rate should be around 12-15 cents per word.
: Good Luck!
