Trados' website gives the possibility to download a trial version, which is not 'illegal' (?) and the only difference with the "real thing" is that you cannot build translation memory databases larger than about 80 translation units (source and target). This version will not expire. Moreover, you can download the glossary database Multiterm, for which you don't need any external 'dongle' and in fact works as 'the real thing'.

: I would not recommend downloading software and keep using it. That is illegal in the. You can download trial versions to see how it works. Also, when you download, you will only get a trial version, which is not as compatible as the "real thing" and you won't be able to use certain tools, that come with it. I personally use the Trados Freelance Edition, which you can obtain from www.trados.com for $495, it's a special for now. It usually costs around $1200. It is very good software and I like it a lot. Good luck.
