Hi Ann,
I read your two posts and just wanted to give you some tips on how to obtain an interpreter (i.e. someone who translates spoken language).
If money is an issue, try contacting the Red Cross or the nearest German embassy for assistance.
If money is no problem, check the local yellow pages for translators/interpreters. Make sure to find an interpreter who charges by the hour, not by the day and find out how much he/she charges for travel time and other expenses. Ask whether he/she has any experience in the medical field (if necessary).
You also stated that you want to contact the family in Germany. I know that the German telephone company (Telekom) can provide interpreters for all languages. If you use an interpreter through them, the charges are added to the telephone bill. I am quite sure that American phone companies provide the same service. If not, ask the family to contact you via the German Telekom (if you send me an e-mail with their phone number, I will contact them for you and tell them what to do - free of charge!) However, it will have to be today or tomorrow, since I am going on vacation Thursday.
