Hi Barry,
I register all my domains at totalnic.
You can do it by credit card and it costs 30 USD for 2 years.
You will need to buy a commercial web package to go with this though.
I don;t know of a free host that accepts other people's domain names.
The disadvantage of using a proper domain name is that you can't use the free web hosting that comes with your dial-up package.
