I'm not a member yet, but working towards taking the
IoL Dip Trans exam next year, which I understand
affords one Member status (if successful!).
Thank you for your advice... I was thinking possibly
along the lines of minimum £50, so what you say
confirms that basis. Also, I've sent away for the
IoL freelancers' rates info, but just wanted to make
contact with some real live people out there working in
the field. Let me know if your agency ever wants to
try me out! Liz

: Hi Liz

: Are you a member of any of the linguistic institutes? They usually publish a rates guide for freelancers. It is hard to say exactly but I would suggest anywhere between £50 and £75 per 1000 words, dependent on the geographical location of the agency you are selling to. If you have qualifications to back you up as well you may well be able to ask for more money, an affiliation to the IoL of ITI will help. My agency is based in Manchester and we would not be able to pay as high as £75/1000 but certainly in the London area I see no reason why you couldn't ask for this.

: I hope this helps a little.

: Kind regards and good luck

: Claire
