although the cd dictionaries will give you a much wider selection (lingvo or media lingua,too) Harpercollins (outside of the us the books is just called "collins" in red) puts out a great dictionary in hard-back--which has over 80,000 words -- and includes modern and American English. The Oxford dictionary is also excellent. good luck!
