: I took the Institute of Linguists Diploma in Translation exams for Spanish - English in November. I am currently awaiting results and also trying to finish my PhD in Latin American Studies. However, at the same time I am trying to figure out what I want to do once my studies are all over. Basically I was wondering whether people thought I could make a reasonable living as a Spanish - English translator. I would specialies in Latin American issues and in business and social texts. I would really appreciate any advice which anyone could offer.

Yes, there is a major surge in translation work from Spanish into English both as a result of the boom in Latin America and the boom in Spain. You would be well advised to choose a niche to translate in, and also to contact us if you want to do a test
Best regards
John

: PS. I have read Alex Eames "How To..." book and found invaluable in terms of giving me an insight into how to get into freelance translation. Many thanks!
