I've been doing web site translation now for a few months. The most tiresome, yet necessary, part of producing a quote for a client is downloading the complete site, intact, so that you can do word counts, text-in-graphics file counts, etc. On huge sites with more than a hundred different pages I've spent two hours just downloading.
I asked my trusty acquaintance, who is very knowledgeable about computers, if there were ways to circumvent my time-intensive downloading method. He gave me a copy of "Black Widow", which is called a "site ripper" in the parlance.
Problem is, it doesn't seem to get the whole site. I practiced on sites that I'm familiar with, and without fail, the program did indeed fail to retrieve the whole site.
My query: does anyone know of more reliable software for ripping web sites? Or is it simply safer to "manually" save sites page by page in order to ensure that you don't miss anything?
