: : A freelance translator FR-ENG, a potential client has asked me to cost on-site translation services (2 or 3 days a week for 2 months). They have no idea of the volume of work involved, so it is very difficult to give them an estimate. Should I charge a daily rate, or a rate per word translated???

: : Thanks for any ideas.

I would charge by the hour, making it very clear that you are like a taxi-meter. You avoid lots of time wasting that way. Very often clients just want to have you around, but haven't planned exactly how to work the process. We charge 40 pounds an hour - keeps down time wasting - and we get it.

Regards
John

: Hi Amanda, I would charge by the day or hour for this kind of thing. Make sure you get paid once a month too, or they might drag it out until the end. Some projects have no end!
