: Translations are usually charged by the word, some agencies pay for the source word, some for the target word. Proofreading and Editing is usually charged by the hour(but even there I have seen some charge by the word).

: : What is the difference in charging for translations per word in the source language or per hour? How is this usually done by freelance translators? Is there an advantage to one method or the other? Thanks!

We charge by the hour for creative work and pay by the hour. It reflects the work more honestly. The price per word is the more standaed system, though
