I am based in the Netherlands - Europe. I recently did some work for a company in the US. I requested them to transfer the payment to a dollar account in the Netherlands. Instead they sent me a dollar check from the First Bank. My bank are charging me anything from $10 to $35 to deposit this check and in additiont they inform me that first Bank will also charge up to $100 for costs - this on a check for $400. I took the check back and am investigating alternatives. Does anyone have any suggestions?
