I am a Mexican freelance translator working in Mexico. I did some work for a firm in the United States. When I sent them the invoice, they sent me back a form (W-9 Substitute) I had to fill out in order for them to pay me. The form asked me for my social security number and a tax identification number. I do have a social security number but it specifies that I am not allowed to work in the United States. I am not working in the United States and I would like to know how should I deal with payments from American clients.
Thank you for your time.
