I was in the same position as yourself as few months ago, but with even less experience and qualifications. Alex suggested to me to offer doing some translations for free just to get experience, which I was about to do when work started rolling in- albeit at rock bottom rates, but then what's a beginner to do?
If you havn't already done so, I recommend Alex's ebook. But rather than mass mailing to every agency in the universe, pick 10 to email to every week, preferably in the country you're based in. This worked for me. I'm now having to turn down work, and I'm gradually raising my rates.
Personally, I definitely think you can count your experience as "experience". Many people have said to me that being dedicated, reliable and providing quality translations is more important than accreditation, and I agree. Not to say that it doesn't matter-as soon as I can I'll be getting myself accredited.
Have you considered the Diploma in Translation from the Institute of Linguists? (www.iol.org.uk) You're eligible for it and it would certainly be something in your favour.
