The best thing to do would be to speak to your bank. In my case I request GBP as a preference but I do not turn clients away if they can only pay in PTS or USD for example. In such a case, when quoting I make sure that my price includes any bank charges (which don't really amount to that much in most circumstances). Your bank should be able to offer you the best advice. In UK it is possible to open a Foreign Currency Account into which all your foreign payments are paid but it really depends how much foreign trade you are doing. In my case, it doesn't not warrant my opening such an account as I only have a handful of foreign clients. Hope that helps a little.
