: Dear Alex,

: How a translator is supposed to proceed with an agency that is interested in hiring him/her for a very large project but in practice this agency has one positive and one negative reference report according to others' experience?

I would make a fresh enquiry to Payment practices. Then email or phone personally and privately to the people who made the reports to get the full story.

: Should I take that job anyway? If so, which would tbe safest way to ensure payment? Partial deliveries? Downpayment before final delivery? Or what?

I suggest you hammer out some sort of monthly payment agreement according to the amount of work done in that month.

: Your comments and advice would be highly appreciated since I do not exactly what to do but the job seems to be very tempting so as to turn it down.

There's always an element of risk, but for a big job it's very tempting just to take it. What about running a credit check on them?
