You don't say where you are, but I guess that doesn't really matter, does it ;) Anyway, I was comparison shopping for "on-line" university courses this weekend and came across http://olt-bta.hrdc-drhc.gc.ca/learning/courses.html -- it lists a number of sources for courses around the world.

I was looking for a course on research and accessing information, but I did search for translation courses too. I did not note those, but I found many in the ICDL (International Centre for Distance Learning) database.

BTW, I asked Athabasca University (Alberta, Canada) for their calendar and registration forms. They seem to have a lot to offer and all courses are available from a distance. A friend is working on her bachelor's degree in nursing by taking "at home" courses offered by Athabaska.

From what I could find, the convenience is 3x the price of classroom courses. This means it will cost a fortune to get a degree in translation from the convenience of your home. Then again, courses are tax-deductible.

The other advantage with Athabaska is that you may take any course your heart desires. McGill and Concordia also offer some of the same courses in their distance education sections, but in my case, the courses were only available to teachers. Other courses were only available as part of a full program.

Good luck,
Karin

: Does anyone know of any corresponding courses to get a Translation Degree? I have not found anything yet. But if anyone knows about some offer like that, please let me know.]
: Thank you.
