My name is Rick Zingale, and I am a conference interpreter and translator EN<>ES (Double "A").

Alex had the great idea of opening an interpreting forum and has given me the honor of being the Moderator.

The purpose of this forum is to provide a point of discussion for all matters relating to conference interpreting (and by extension, all other types, i.e., court, medical, liaison, etc.).

It is my hope that by sharing our experiences we can expect to improve the profession as a whole.

Cordial regards from Barcelona.

Rick

It was Rick's idea really.

He asked for a resource for conference interpreters.

Since I don't know much about that, I offered to create a space in the forums, if he would take charge of it. So please come and enjoy discussing interpreting issues with each other and Rick.

Rick:

This is great, finally found a place where I can post things for other court interpreters and pick up opinions also. I just began in this field and have found it very interesting so far. However, how does one get more work other than trying to network?
Thanks

Laurie

Hello, Laurie:

In order for others to provide better feedback, perhaps you could be a bit more specific regarding the following issues:

a) Field. When you say field are you referring to conference interpreting, court interpreting, or some other type?
b) Just began. Where? New York? Chicago? London? In what type of setting?
c) What are your A, B and C languages (if applicable). It would probably be a good idea for interpreters to state their working languages in their initial postings within this forum, or include a reference to them or a link, etc.

Based on your posting and your name, the most we readers can glean is that you're a native English-speaking interpreter working somewhere in the world. But in order to provide you with some positive suggestions, we need to know a bit more about you than that!

:-)
