Thanks for the interesting article on proof-reading. Techniques such as these are very useful. Most professional translators don't mind being proof-read by a colleague and can accept constructive criticism.However, what would be interesting for discussion is how to deal with a) translators who won't accept "corrections" to their texts and, b) clients who think they can proof-read your translations. As for clients, I count myself lucky when they bother to tell me that they've made some corrections and even ask for my approval. Many don't and publish texts with unchecked modifications -  Many clients who "speak English" (I translate from French into English) don't / can't / won't make the difference between wrong meaning and style, which may lead to silly arguments of the spade/shovel kind. How do my fellow translators out there deal with such awkward clients. Is "educating the client" a real possibility? Answers on a postcard please....  Amanda IP: 213.44.165.231 |

What they do with your translation is their business. You can, however, ask them not to put your name to it if they want to make changes.IP: 213.56.60.234 |
