When a famous car manufacturer was introducing a new model during the 1970s, they eventually decided to call it the "Silver Mist". A lot of work and money went into the launch, including translating all the hype into as many languages as possible. One translator phoned the customer's head office to ask whether he should translate the name, or leave it as is, and was told to leave it untranslated. He then replied "Do you realise that Mist is an extemely rude word in German?" The name was hastily dropped.
